in my final semester at michigan tech, i wanted to produce an album to satisfy my last practicum credit. rather than sampling records or tapes, however, i recorded sessions with a select group of musicians who've had a great impact on my musical life. due to the fact that i was simultaneously creating a documentary with this project, i decided to record rehearsals and see what i could come up with. the only session that wasn't a rehearsal was the drum tracking i did with josh loar. he graciously allowed me to record him in his home studio, which provided me with a diverse set of tasty drum hits, loops, and grooves.
the bringing together of elements recorded at different times in different spaces is what i love about sampling music, and i was able to push that idea into an entirely new realm with this album. things fell together wonderfully and i couldn't be happier with the result. i have an immense amount of audio from this project, and would like to release a larger cut of this album in the future (but no promises yet).
i'd like to thank eric smith and dominic mosher for assisting me with tracking these sessions, all of the musicians involved, and my awesome colleagues who supported the production of this album.
please feel free to contact me with any questions about the project.
